Obitary Nellie Asay
Media Title | Obitary Nellie Asay |
Media Notes | Nellie Judd Asay passed away April 11, 2015, at her home in Orem, Utah. Her heart gave out before her spirit did! She was born July 3, 1923, in Kanab, Ut to Carlos Wandel & Esther Brown Judd. She attended BYU, graduated from Dixie College, and married the love of her life, Lynn J Asay in 1943 in the St. George LDS Temple. After WWII she and Lynn moved to Provo and raised their six children. Nellie was active in Primary and RS and she and Lynn served many years in Provo (10) & Mt. Timp (2) Temples. They also served an LDS Mission to Ruidoso New Mexico, Albuquerque NM Mission in 1987. So far four of their children have served LDS Missions, all of the grandsons and four of the granddaughters and most of the eligible greats--what a legacy! Nellie loved flowers and gardening and she and Lynn kept a beautiful yard—always willing to share with anyone who would take a “start” of something!! Family was always so important—until the last few years of their lives, they never missed a baptism, blessing, graduation, or anything—which is quite a feat when you count the number of grands & greats! She was such an amazing lady—everyone she met loved her and knew she loved them! She could smile and light up the whole room—Every grand knows that they are her very favorite—and it’s true! Her example of service and selflessness inspires all of us to be just a little better—to do just a little more—to care just a little more often—to make that phone call or send that note! Nellie leaves a great legacy of family: Lynell (Duane) Shock, Lehi, UT; Phyllis (Glen) Andersen, Nauvoo, IL, missionaries in Hawaii; Thea Daniel (Blaine) Thomas, Lehi, UT; Rhea (Evan) Racker, St. George, UT, missionaries in Finland; Allen (Dana)Asay, Huntsville, AL; and Debra Workman, Orem, (who devoted the last 13 years to caring for mom & dad). 24 grandchildren, 103 great grandchildren, and 1 great great with 2 more on the way. Nellie has joined in heaven her parents; little sister, Phyllis Marie; brother, Dell (Eileen) Judd; beloved husband, Lynn; & son-in-law, M. Roy Daniel.
